Glenn Deetman is the franchise owner of Fitness Machine Technicians. He served in the Marine Corps for three years as an infantryman before transitioning to the Army, where he served for 39 years as a helicopter test pilot. During his military career, Glenn completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan and one in Iraq as a Combat Advisor, working closely with indigenous Army personnel.
Glenn is not the only member of his family who served. His two brothers also dedicated time to the military. His younger brother retired from the Army as a helicopter crew chief, and his older brother served in the Navy aboard nuclear submarines before transitioning to the Army, where he retired as an experimental test pilot.
As Glenn prepared for retirement, he attended an entrepreneurship class that provided tips on running a restaurant. During this time, he realized he could start another business rather than commuting up I-95 to continue working as a government employee after retirement. After researching various opportunities, Glenn discovered Fitness Machine Technicians: a business that allows him to solve problems and repair equipment, two things he greatly enjoys and found especially rewarding during his military service.
At Fitness Machine Technicians, Glenn and his team are trained to repair, assemble, install, and perform preventive maintenance on all makes and models of fitness equipment throughout Northern and Central Virginia. Some of the most common questions they receive are whether they work on commercial or residential equipment and whether they service only specific brands. Glenn and his technicians are trained to work on both commercial and residential machines of any brand. To date, there has not been a machine they have been unable to repair, as long as parts are available. Glenn also noted that his team has even found ways to repair machines when replacement parts are no longer available.
Glenn and his team pride themselves on providing a higher standard of service than their competitors, along with detailed service reports after every call. They are also the only franchise that sends all technicians to a week-long training program in Charlotte, North Carolina, where they become certified fitness equipment technicians before working independently in the field.
Glenn truly enjoys coming to work each day, solving customers’ equipment issues, and helping them return to their fitness journeys. He is currently focused on expanding preventive maintenance contracts with commercial businesses while continuing to support residential customers.
Glenn and Fitness Machine Technicians are proud supporters of the military. “It’s a way to give back for all that service members and their families endure while serving our country,” Glenn shared.
Outside of work, Glenn enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and tackling home projects that support his wife’s passion for interior design.
