Grateful Business: CrossFit SPRC

Martha Redinger, owner of CrossFit SPRC is a supporter of the military. “because it’s one of many ways to support the country and those who serve it. My son served in the Navy. My brother served in the Army infantry during the Vietnam era.”

CrossFit SPRC is a CrossFit affiliate gym meaning workouts include functional movements that span weightlifting, gymnastics (body weight) and all forms of metabolic conditioning. As is typical with CrossFit, veterans are familiar with the type of training/exercises that CrossFit gyms use. We offer discounts to veterans and active service military members. We frequently do workouts in remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice- Hero Workouts. In that sense, we find ways to recognize military service and feel a camaraderie with those who train and visit our gym. Memorial Day and July 4 are always busy days as military members often find their way to our open gyms and workout with us.

One CrossFit slogan is that we “Prepare for the Unknowable”. CrossFit is a non-specific sport in that we prepare in every way possible to stay fit and healthy. Whatever the age or fitness level, all athletes in a CrossFit gym can prepare for life and its physical demands, anything from helping a friend move furniture, to getting in and out of a chair.

Another aspect of CrossFit is that it tends to enhance a sense of community and becomes a supportive atmosphere where friends can meet. We support each other through hard work and hard times.
CrossFit SPRC has an established and growing membership and invites everyone to join whatever their background in sport and fitness. Just like the military, men and women discover it’s comfortable where men and women work out together!

CrossFit encourages high intensity workouts and for some, that seems intimidating. Research shows that intensity is necessary to maintain and improve fitness as it helps build muscle especially when supported by enough protein in the diet. Intensity is relative to each person and fitness level. Good CrossFit coaches are trained to help athletes find the right amount of intensity.

Our athletes at CrossFit SPRC have varied goals. Some like to improve their Olympic lifting skills. Some are training for a marathon. CrossFit SPRC offers varied classes. We coaches are always learning and have diverse backgrounds and specialty skills. CrossFit SPRC continues to offer a diverse array of opportunities to meet those varied interests including the recent addition of HYROX training, another functional fitness program with more running training.

As the owner of CrossFit SPRC, I’m proud of the diverse community established and how we have become good and supportive friends.
Outside of CrossFit, I have no life. Just kidding! It’s full time and takes a great deal of energy. I do find time to travel, play piano and violin occasionally, read and meet with friends and family.
