“The Freedom Fund” is proud to announce Mission BBQ as the January 2020, “Friend of Freedom” award winner.

If there is a military or police event in town, there is a good chance Manager Jeremy Vaughan and his patriotic crew are there and enthusiastically serving up some delicious Mission BBQ.

“We feed Charlottesville First Responders or Armed Forces members at least once to twice a week. We are currently raising money for the Albemarle County Police Foundation and the Albemarle County Fire and Rescue,” explained Vaughan. He opened the franchise in Charlottesville nearly 4 years ago. “We as a team and brand feel that there is nothing more American than those that raise their right hand and vow to protect and serve their communities and country. These core ideals of our First Responders or Armed Forces members are the sole reason we are able to have a successful restaurant in the beautiful community of Charlottesville.”

Frequently, when the Mission BBQ crew is out in the community, they arrive in a giant Army truck. “Our truck was originally built in 1953 and saw active duty during the Gulf War.” Each Mission BBQ restaurant in the country has an Army truck used for transportation to and from catering jobs and community events.

Jeremy and wife Lori have 3 children, ages 11, 4 and 2. Military service runs in the family. “My late grandfather Charles Harper was an army veteran during the Korean War. He was an inspiration for all in the family. His discipline led him on to a successful career as an accomplished engineer, author and speaker. His was honored to have a library named after him at the University of Maryland and one of our restaurant smokers bears the name Charlie too.”

If you have a hankering for some delicious food, be sure to check out Mission BBQ on Route 29, and support those that do so much for our local heroes. The restaurant walls are covered with patches and pictures, most donated by local citizens. “We look forward to our future here in Charlottesville as we grow together… The reason we give back is so we can thank those brave men and women for their services.”

Each month, “The Freedom Fund”  Board of Directors will chose a FOF award winner to be featured on Gratitudecville.com.  Winners will get a trophy and sometimes a monetary award.  To nominate person or organization that promotes and protects freedom in our community, email us at gratitudecville@gmail.c
