The military provided me with so much and is the reason I am successful today,” says Kerry Rock, Founder of DoGoodCville and Friend of Freedom award winner for Gratitude Charlottesville.

Kerry Rock is an Army veteran who served from 2000 to 2005 with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy and 2nd BN 10th SFG out of Colorado Springs. Kerry deployed to Iraq in 2003 with the 173 rd Airborne Brigade taking part in Operation Northern Delay. After his military service Kerry landed in Charlottesville, VA in 2005 as an Intelligence Analyst. During his time in Charlottesville Kerry met his wife Colleen who moved here in 2010 to help start a veterinary practice.

How can we help?” – the question that came to the minds of both Kerry and Colleen as they were in the process of starting DoGoodCville. Kerry and Colleen both love serving others and helping where they can. This showed during their first few months of dating when they would go on
volunteer date nights on Thursday evenings at Loaves and Fishes, then head out for margaritas. From this DoGoodCville was born.

DoGoodCville was founded from their desire to make positive change in the community and has led to washing veterans’ gravestones, gathering winter clothing for the homeless, providing digital libraries to children in Kenya, helping build water wells in Tanzania, brewing a blueberry
beer, and even holding an 80’s prom.

These days DoGoodCVille has three main events every year, the Memorial Weekend Clean Up, the Blueberry Goodness Brew Event with Three Notch Brewery, and the Winter Wear Drive that benefits the patrons of the Haven. Each one of these events has a different purpose and ways to be involved. If anyone wants more information, check out: www.dogoodcville.org

Each quarter, “The Freedom Fund” Board of Directors will choose a FOF award winner to be featured on Gratitudecville.com.  To nominate person or organization that promotes and protects freedom in our community, email us at gratitudecville@gmail.com.
