Pets for Vets

In partnership with the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA Gratitude Cville funds the free adoption of pets to local veterans.  In the words of Angie Gunter, Chief Executive Officer of the SPCA, “Veterans deserve to have the kind of unconditional support a pet can provide”.  Since the program’s inception, more than 50 pets have been adopted by local veterans without any cost to them or at a greatly reduced adoption fee.  Adopters range in age, branch of military, and gender, resulting in a diverse pool of participants.  Veterans who adopt dogs also receive a free six-month supply of heart meds, and 12 weeks of flea/tick protection as a form of post-adoption support.

If you are a veteran and interested in adopting through the program, simply fill out an adoption application online at the SPCA website and one of their adoption counselors will be in touch with you. Please reach out. Even if you are not ready to adopt, the SPCA would love to talk to you. The SPCA can match you up with a pet to love on and get love from.  ALSO, if you would like to help us fund this very important program by making a donation, please contact us at gratitudecville@gmail.com.

Birthday Blankets for Vets

Gratitude Charlottesville developed a unique program in which we provide a special Birthday Blanket to veterans who reside in one of six local Nursing and Assisted Living Homes.  On a monthly basis these homes notify Gratitude Charlottesville of residents who are veterans and have a Birthday that month. We then gift wrap a blanket with an attached personal note thanking that vet for their service tour our nation. In our first year of offering this program we hope to reach more than 150 elderly veterans, many who are alone and have had minimal contact with family do the COVID pandemic.  ALSO, if you would like to help us fund this very important program by making a donation, please contact us at gratitudecville@gmail.com.
